Half a year ago, Mara, Roxana and Cristina founded the Women in Finance Society. Let’s review what we have achieved since then:
We have hosted 4 on-campus events and organized 2 in-company visits; we expanded from London to Madrid and we grew our members to over 20.
On International Women’s Day on 8th March, our society was celebrated on the official ESCP Europe London Facebook page, honoring our mission and our work during the previous months.
One day later, on 9th March, Women in Finance was “Highly Commended” as ESCP Europe’s 2018 London Societies of the Year. This award was announced during the London Annual Gala Dinner Dance hosted at the iconic Landmark Hotel. In his speech, Prof. Simon Mercado, Dean of the London Campus, highlighted the society for our contribution to the school. The awards were given to societies embodying four core values: Student Life, Community Building, Creativity and ESCP Spirit.
Out of 24 societies, only 4 received a prize during the Gala. The award shows that we have achieved a significant publicity within the student body and the administration, and that the school appreciates our commitment. We are very proud of this milestone and are even more motivated to spread the Women in Finance spirit across ESCP.
Roxana Martin, Co-Founder and President of the London Campus, was thrilled to receive the prize:
"The award means so much to me, and I hope to the girls as well, especially as the society was founded only 7 months ago. It shows that our work is valued also from people that aren't necessarily part of the society, and in this case not even students. I hope this project will be successful especially in the long term because we might not change the prejudices but we can change how we deal with and approach gender inequality. We can therefore only grow stronger and create a community that helps and supports itself but especially grows in self-esteem. This award is therefore showing that what we have done so far hasn't gone unnoticed and that we are going in the right direction and I couldn't be happier and prouder."
Inspired by this award, Mara Grasso, Co-Founder and President of the Madrid Campus aims to expand the society further this summer:
“I am grateful to the school for the award we received. This is not only recognition for us but also a huge incentive in continuing growing as a society and always doing. I am glad to see my team working together and reaching common objectives like the events we have organized up to now and the network we are creating in the financial industry. I am proud of the job we have done during this time and to have gathered a numerous and enthusiastic team both in London and in Madrid. I hope this society will receive the same interest also next year in the Paris Campus where I aim to expand our reach starting from September. I will do my best to make it happen and I am confident that we will perform with the same passion and effort as this year.”
